Fabulous App Review 2026: Cost, Cancel & Verdict

By Mira HartwellPublished September 11, 202611 min read

Fabulous is a habit-coaching platform rather than a habit tracker. This Fabulous app review covers what Premium costs, how to cancel across all three billing channels, and who is better served by a plain tracker. Trustpilot reviewers rate it 3.2 out of 5 across 3,936 reviews, against 3.9 from roughly 589,000 ratings on Google Play and 4.4 from 88,901 ratings on the US App Store.

Prices, ratings and cancellation steps checked 10 September 2026.

What Fabulous actually is

Fabulous started as a habit tracker and grew into a coaching platform built around multi-week "journeys" — structured programmes that hand you one small change at a time.

Around them sit a 24/7 audio coaching library, daily affirmations, guided breathing, journalling, community challenges, and sessions with a real human coach. The habit list is one panel of a much bigger product.

The research pedigree is real. Fabulous says it was incubated in Duke University's behavioural economics lab, led by Dan Ariely, and that its team includes behavioural economists, psychologists and data scientists. Google Play carries an Editors' Choice badge alongside 10 million-plus downloads.

Here is the honest framing. Most of what you pay for is motivation delivered as content. In BJ Fogg's behaviour model, an action needs motivation, ability and a prompt at the same moment. Motivation is the part that fades first.

That is a design choice, not a flaw. If being talked through a change is what gets you moving, Fabulous does it better than almost anyone.

What the free version gets you, and where the wall is

The free tier is more usable than most reviews admit. Fabulous's help centre states the app "can be used without a Premium membership for as long as you'd like," with free journeys, challenges and guided activities included.

You get daily routine tracking with a capped habit count and a sample of the library. Fabulous's Premium benefits list covers the rest: every Premium journey, challenge and guided activity, all daily, focus and nightly coaching sessions, unlimited habits and routines, cloud backup, and full access to the Circles community.

One more wrinkle: Fabulous publishes a family of apps, and its help centre confirms two of them, Shape and Elixir, cannot be used without Premium. Only the flagship app has a free tier.

If you only need a free tracker, our free habit tracker guide compares the options.

Fabulous app cost in 2026

There is no single published price. Fabulous's own App Store description says pricing "may vary" by country and tells you to check the exact figure in the app.

What can be verified is what Apple publishes: ten separate in-app purchases, with a wide spread.

PlanPrice (US App Store, checked September 2026)What to know
Standard free versionFreeUsable indefinitely, with a capped habit count
Fabulous Premium$16.99, $19.99, $29.99, $35.99, $39.99 or $59.99Six purchases share one name; which you see depends on the offer
Fabulous Annual Subscription$49.99The only Fabulous plan Apple labels annual
Premium Quarterly$39.99The only purchase Apple labels quarterly
Fabulous Premium Offer$49.99Listed under its own name
Sphere: Annually 50% Off$59.99Listed on the same page under a different product name
Free trialFree, then convertsNeeds a payment method up front and renews on its own

One cost the table misses: one-on-one coaching sits outside Premium. Personal Coaching is billed monthly on its own — a 30-minute video session, plus email support in between.

Google Play lists its own range for the app: $3.99 to $299.99 per item.

Why so many price points? Fabulous's subscription terms, updated 18 June 2026, explain it: many plans open at a discounted introductory rate for the first one, three or twelve months, then renew at the standard rate.

So treat any figure you read online, this one included, as a starting point — check the renewal price at checkout.

Trials need the same care: they require a payment method up front and convert to a paid plan unless you cancel at least 24 hours before they end.

How to cancel your Fabulous subscription

This is where most people get stuck, and the reason is structural. Fabulous sells through three billing channels, and steps that work in one do nothing in another.

Where you subscribedWhere you cancelWhat happens to your access
Apple App StoreiPhone or iPad Settings, or the App Store on a MacRuns to the end of the period you paid for
Google PlayPlay Store app, or play.google.com in a browserRuns to the end of the period you paid for
Direct on thefabulous.coapp.thefabulous.co, under Membership PlansRuns to the end of the period you paid for

Not sure which applies? Check your confirmation email: if it came from Apple or Google, that store owns the billing; if from Fabulous, you bought direct.

1. If you subscribed on iPhone or iPad

Apple manages these subscriptions, and Fabulous cannot cancel them for you. Their Apple cancellation guide gives the route:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.
  3. Find and tap Fabulous.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

On a Mac: App Store, your name, Account Settings, then Manage next to Subscriptions.

2. If you subscribed on Android

Google owns the billing here, so cancellation happens in the Play Store, per their Google Play guide:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions.
  3. Tap Subscriptions and find Fabulous.
  4. Tap Cancel subscription and confirm.

3. If you subscribed on the Fabulous website

Neither store can help with a direct purchase. Fabulous's website cancellation guide routes you through your account:

  1. Go to app.thefabulous.co and sign in.
  2. Select the app whose plan you want to end.
  3. Open Membership Plans and tap Cancel Plan.
  4. Follow the steps to the confirmation page, then reopen Membership Plans to check for an expiry date.

Bought the App Bundle Plan? Each app must be cancelled one by one.

Four things the complaint threads keep missing

Deleting the app cancels nothing. Fabulous says so on all three cancellation pages, and it is the most common reason people keep getting charged.

Cancelling does not cut you off early either. Access runs to the end of the period you paid for, and the app swaps its renewal date for an expiry date.

Refunds follow the same logic: for store purchases, Apple and Google handle them, not Fabulous.

And a $1 charge after starting a trial is a card verification hold, not a fee. Fabulous says banks release it within five to seven business days.

What users actually report: the rating spread

Ratings differ sharply depending on where you look.

On the US App Store the app holds 4.4 stars from 88,901 ratings. Google Play shows 3.9 from roughly 589,000. On Trustpilot, an independent review site, it sits at 3.2 from 3,936 reviews.

Rating: (3.2/5) on Trustpilot, checked September 2026.

A spread like that is normal, and neither number is fake. Store ratings are collected in-app, often at a good moment; independent sites attract people with a billing problem to solve.

The themes are consistent. Trustpilot's summary of recent reviews names subscription, payment and cancellation as the recurring negatives — the three things the section above fixes.

The positives are just as consistent. Reviewers call the content inspiring and motivating, credit it with structuring their day, and praise the gentle, supportive tone. The bite-sized daily format comes up again and again.

In fairness, Fabulous has claimed its Trustpilot profile and replied to 71% of its negative reviews.

What Fabulous does well, and where it frustrates

Start with the strengths. The onboarding is unusually good, the journey structure gives shape to a vague goal, and the audio production is closer to a podcast studio than an app. Live human coaching, billed separately, is something almost no habit app offers.

The frustrations are equally real. Reviewers keep flagging the same two things: persistent upsell prompts, and a busy, animation-heavy interface that puts extra taps between you and a check-in.

The last gap matters most if you are data-minded: long-term analytics are thin. Rival wellness app Liven, reviewing Fabulous in November 2025, made the same point.

That limitation has teeth. Wendy Wood, author of Good Habits, Bad Habits, puts about 43% of daily behaviour on autopilot: repeated in the same context, usually while you think about something else. Spotting your own pattern is how you find those cues, and a coaching library will not show it to you.

Who Fabulous is for, and who should pick a plain tracker

Choose Fabulous if you want to be told what to do next. If you will genuinely open an audio session, follow a structured journey and value a nudge over a number, the subscription buys something no checkbox app provides.

Choose a plain tracker if you already know which habits you want. When the goal is a grid, a streak and a one-tap check-in, a coaching library is weight you pay to carry.

Three routes are worth a look. HabitBox is free to start with an optional Plus upgrade, and keeps the tracking layer without the coaching layer: a contribution-style grid, one-tap check-ins, and habits on your device with no account to create, plus optional iCloud sync and a home-screen widget on iPhone. For structure with a game attached, see Habitica alternatives. For streak-first tracking, try Streaks alternatives, or compare the field in the best habit tracker apps guide.

Two things outlast whichever app you pick. James Clear's rule from Atomic Habits is the first: never miss twice. One missed day is noise; two in a row is a new pattern, and a visible grid makes the second miss obvious.

The second is patience. University College London research led by Phillippa Lally found habits took 66 days on average to become automatic, with individuals ranging from 18 days to 254 — reason enough to judge any app after two months, not two weeks.

Want the grid without the coaching library? Download HabitBox on iOS and Android — one-tap check-ins, streak history, and a calendar heatmap of every day you showed up.

Fabulous app review FAQ

How much does the Fabulous app cost?

There is no single price. In September 2026 the US App Store listed ten in-app purchases from $16.99 to $59.99, including a $49.99 annual subscription and a $39.99 quarterly plan; Google Play lists a $3.99 to $299.99 range. The spread is introductory pricing that renews higher, so check the renewal figure at checkout.

How do I cancel my Fabulous subscription?

It depends where you bought it. On iPhone or iPad: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Fabulous, Cancel Subscription. On Android: Play Store, your profile, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, Fabulous, Cancel subscription. Bought on thefabulous.co? Cancel under Membership Plans at app.thefabulous.co. Deleting the app does not cancel billing.

Is the Fabulous app safe to use?

Yes. It is a long-established app from a company incubated in Duke University's behavioural economics lab, carries an Editors' Choice badge on Google Play, and has over 10 million downloads. Recurring complaints on independent review sites concern billing and cancellation friction, not security.

Is Fabulous worth it, or is the free version enough?

For many people the free version is enough: the help centre confirms the main app works without Premium indefinitely, with a capped habit count and a sample of journeys. Premium earns its price if you will use the full library and the coaching. If you only tick habits off a list, it will not.

What is a good Fabulous alternative if I only want habit tracking?

A dedicated tracker will serve you better and cost less. Look for a calendar heatmap, streak history and one-tap check-ins rather than a content library. Streaks and Habitica sit at opposite ends of that range, from plain grids to gamified quests.
